The Romanov Fund for Russia (Registered Charity No 1037622) will benefit from the profit of this year’s ball.

Since the establishment in 1992 of the Romanov Fund for Russia by initiative of several senior members of the Romanov family, the Fund has been instrumental in many philanthropic activities in Russia and the CIS.

From 1993 many institutions taking care of handicapped children, nursery schools, kindergartens for abandoned children and hospitals for elderly people have received donations brought personally to them by the chairman of the Romanov Fund for Russia, Prince Dimitri of Russia. In the Russian Federation the following towns have received one or several visits by the Chairman of the Fund bringing to them charitable assistance: Moscow, St Petersburg, Kostroma, Jaroslavl, Jekaterinburg and Irkutsk. In the Republic of Ukraine Kiev, in the Republic of Kazakhstan Almati and in the Republic of Uzbekistan Tashkent.

The Fund was created for the purpose of benefiting those who are residing in the territories of any of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Georgian Republic (which borders are to be taken as those in place on the First day of January 1993) and in particular citizens of any of the Commonwealth States as follows:

• To relieve and assist such persons who are in condition of need, hardship or distress as a result or by reason of their social, economic or political circumstances
• To further the education of such persons
• To advance religion
• To promote and carry out all or any other purposes which shall be exclusively charitable for the benefit of such persons by the provision of funding or other assistance by all such means as may be charitable

On June 20 2011 at a solemn ceremony held at the official presidential summer residence at Gorky, outside Moscow, the president of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, bestowed upon Prince Dimitri Romanov the Russian Order of Friendship. The award was in recognition “For his great achievements in strengthening friendship and cultural cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Denmark and for his accomplishments as chairman of the Romanov Fund for Russia.”
